We are proud to work towards sustainable, safer, and greener food production systems by developing innovative solutions which prevent disease transmission and safeguard animal and human health. It is our company policy to excel in environment, health, and biosecurity, and to contribute to local communities and to society. As a progressive, dynamic, and innovative company, Lir manufactures numerous products for the safe production of food which are safe for animal and human use while also protecting our natural environment and ecosystems. The importance of safeguarding food producing animals to safeguard human health is now recognized by the European Union under the One Health approach. This is something that Lir Analytical has made its core strategy through its active Research and Development activities.
EU One Health Action Plan against AMR
The One Health approach initially emerged internationally with the aim of addressing emerging, re-emerging, and zoonotic diseases. As the concept grew, however, it was expanded to include environmental health (ecosystems) and sustainability, with a clear understanding of the relationship with human health. The EU One Health strategy aims to reduce the impact of AMR thus protecting humans, animals, and the environment. Reducing the use of antibiotics in food producing animals is key to this approach. Food producing animals are treated with antibiotics and given antibiotics to promote animal growth. Infectious disease in animals decreases productivity, negatively effects animal wellbeing, and incurs treatment costs on the farmer. Controlling animal disease and zoonotic pathogens is effective in controlling human disease, as seen with human brucellosis, which is reduced when controlled in the animal host. Brucellosis is a highly contagious bacterial disease of cattle and a foodborne bacterium associated with chronic symptoms in humans. In terms of reducing antibiotic use in line with One Health, preventing disease is essential. At Lir Analytical we supply innovative solutions which can reduce disease transmission within herds protecting animal health. Effective use of our products will prevent disease outbreaks, reduce veterinary costs and ensure food production with a greatly reduced environmental impact. Effectively eliminating bacterial species from the animal and its environment eliminates the need for antibiotic use in food producing animals. To ensure sustainability Lir is passionate about developing greener solutions which can be used at farm level while adhering to EU guidance protecting the environment. All our products are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems which is the worlds leading quality standard. This is how we ensure we provide products and services consistently adhering to customer and regulatory requirements.
